Make Paper Ballots The Law in Massachusetts

H670 is very simple: the bill codifies in law our current voting system of voter-marked paper ballots read by optical scanners, with ballot-marking devices to serve voters with disabilities. Secretary of State Galvin made the wise decision that Massachusetts would adopt paper ballot voting systems, and the necessary voting equipment is already in place throughout the state. Paper ballot voting systems are cost-effective, accessible, and easily audited. They are currently used in more jurisdictions in the United States than any other voting system. Many states, including Florida, Colorado, Iowa, and Maryland, are taking steps now to adopt optical scan systems. H670 ensures, at no cost, that Massachusetts will continue to employ this first-rate voting system. Thank you for your attention to this issue fundamental to our democracy.
