Hey y'all,
Nothing builds political synergy like spanking your opposition together. Just ask Arnold Schwarzenegger. He's done a brilliant job this year of pissing off all the right lefties and most of the rest of California. No wonder he got paddled last week.
The same goes for Wal-Mart. They are so naughty in so MANY ways that they have become a kind of "great uniter." This week thousands of people from all walks of life are giving Wal-Mart a time out. They are demanding accountability from America's largest employer for busting unions, paying poverty wages, destroying Mom & Pop businesses, fostering rampant sprawl, using sweat shop labor abroad, failing to insure their employees, discriminating against women and immigrants, and elevating American's consumption of meaningless shit to an almost spiritual duty.
Wal-Mart's business model is a potent mixture of twenty-first
century corporate capitalism and old school feudalism right out of the
Dark Ages. Competitors are forced to adopt this insidious model to keep
up with the Waltons. Worse, every MBA student is geeking out on
Wal-Mart's revolutionary Supply Chain Management and Labor Relations
(read: Exploitation) strategies. The whole damn model is going viral
right now and Big Pharma will not be working on the vaccine.
It's up to us! Not just Ruckus. I'm talking about the big US here. We've got the power and the responsibility to bring Wal-Mart to heel. The good news is that in the process we can build political power and raise the bar for what we expect of businesses operating in our communities. It won't be easy. Wal-Mart is often the only game in town to folks who live on a budget (i.e. most people). First we need to educate America to the evils that lurk below those low LOW prices.
Ruckus is using an exciting new action technology to expose the true
costs of Wal-Mart. Our "Light Cannons" allow us to project GIANT images
with powerful photos and messages onto buildings and structures. Even
onto Wal-Mart itself! You may have seen these industrial projectors used in the past to sell
you crap that you don't need. Well we've given these advertising tools
a new life. Think of it as subvertising.
