September 02, 2010 Subject: I wish to appeal to you on behalf of JAMES JACKSON, who is due to be executed on Feb. 7, 2007. My sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of Sharon Jackson and her two daughters, and I agree this was a very tragic event that cannot go unpunished. However, the death penalty—which only serves to create more victims and perpetuate a cycle of violence—is not the right punishment for JAMES JACKSON. The state of Texas should not execute James Jackson. Executing Jackson would constitute the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment. Furthermore, during the sentencing phase of Jackson’s trial, the judge did not allow his family to testify about how executing Jackson would affect their lives. Also, there is a question as to whether or not Jackson’s initial arrest was legal. Thank you for your time and consideration in this important and urgent matter.
