September 02, 2010 Subject: I wish to appeal to you on behalf of JEROME HARBISON, who is due to be executed on September 26, 2007. My sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of Edith Russell and I agree this was a very tragic event that cannot go unpunished. However, the death penalty—which only serves to create more victims and perpetuate a cycle of violence—is not the right punishment for JEROME HARBISON. Furthermore, Harbison was not the only man supposedly involved in the crime; David Schreary was also a suspect though he was not convicted. Though initially Harbison confessed to the crime, he later retracted his statement, claiming that he only made it because the police threatened that if he did not confess to the crime, they would arrest his girlfriend Janice Duckett and take her children away. Janice Duckett testified under other that Edward was at her house the night of the murder. Executing JEROME HARBISON would violate the right to life as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and constitute the ultimate cruel, inhuman, and degrading punishment.
