September 02, 2010 Subject: I wish to appeal to you on behalf of DARYL HOLTON, who is due to be executed on September 12, 2007. My sympathies go out to the family and loved ones who have suffered and I agree this was a very tragic event that cannot go unpunished. However, the death penalty—which only serves to create more victims and perpetuate a cycle of violence—is not the right punishment for DARYL HOLTON. Furthermore, Holton was more or less in charge of his own defense. He had ineffective counsel from a lawyer who was experiencing severe personal problems. Holton also clearly suffers from a documented mental disease; he still suffers from severe depression while on death row. Executing DARYL HOLTON would violate the right to life as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and constitute the ultimate cruel, inhuman, and degrading punishment.
