September 02, 2010 Subject: I wish to appeal to you on behalf of MICHAEL LAMBERT, who is due to be executed on June 15, 2007. My sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of Officer Gregg Winters and I agree this was a very tragic event that cannot go unpunished. However, the death penalty—which only serves to create more victims and perpetuate a cycle of violence—is not the right punishment for MICHAEL LAMBERT. Indiana should not execute Lambert for his role in this crime. Executing Lambert would violate the right to life as declared in the Universal Declaration of Human Right and constitute the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment. Furthermore, the jury may have been exposed improperly to victim impact evidence, and the defense did not present a full mental history of Lambert during their mitigation argument. Currently, Lambert is a party in a federal lawsuit challenging the legality of the state’s lethal injection protocol. Thank you for your time and consideration in this important and urgent matter.
