Tell Congress: don't drag out protecting our health! Congress left Washington with some unfinished business: drug safety legislation passed by both chambers was not sent to the President's desk for his signature. However, your representatives are now home for the summer and they need to hear that you care about the safety of the medications you and your family take. Drug safety is still a major issue -- an FDA advisory committee recently voted to keep the diabetes drug Avandia on the market even though reports have shown it could significantly increase the risk of heart attack. We should not be hearing about the safety risks of a drug seven years after it's been on the market. Drug safety reforms passed by Congress would allow the public to know more quickly about medications with serious safety risks. Fixing our drug safety system should be the first priority for Congress when it comes back in session. Take a minute to let your representatives and community know that you care about safer drugs. We've made it really easy for you to contact your local newspaper about this issue. Simply choose your state from the list below. |
