A majority of Americans oppose President Bush's plan to privatize Social Security. Yet Bush and privatizing supporters in Congress plan to try to push private accounts through after Congress resumes in September.
If the Bush plan were enacted, future retirees, spouses, disabled workers, and children would have to rely only on severely cut Social Security benefits. Workers would be expected to make up the difference in cuts through private account earnings. Private accounts are risky because they are subject to the highs and lows of the stock market. Experts estimate that workers will only be able to recoup part of what they will lose in benefits.
Help stop this attempt to rob Americans of needed Social Security benefits. Tell your members of Congress to oppose private accounts and instead look for ways to bolster pensions and retirement savings.
Personalized messages to Congress have a much greater impact. Please edit the message below to talk about why you oppose changes to Social Security.
