John Ashcroft: Investigate Voter Intimidation!

Prior to Election Day 2004 stories of voter suppression emerged, primarily among on college campuses and in?communities of color. Citizens reported 1,074 instances of voter intimidation to the Election Protection coalition. Disenfranchisement of voters hurts American democracy and discourages confidence in our electoral system. Tell Attorney General John Ashcroft to investigate voter intimidation allegations and prosecute the perpetrators of these acts.

Groups leading voter suppression efforts claimed that they were protecting the electoral system from voter fraud. But a report by the non-partisan organization Demos?found that instances of voter fraud are, in fact, rare.

The right to vote is at the core of American democracy. It is crucial that the Department of Justice?help to restore confidence in our electoral system by launching an investigation into allegations of voter intimidation and suppression. Take action today!
