Urge Congress to Protect Organic Foods From Corporate Pressure!

Since Congress is uninformed about Codex, they have no idea that these regulations would bring the US Organic Industry into Codex Compliance.

Although we dodged the Amendment to weaken Organic Food Standards substantially, the matter is being studied by Secretary of Agriculture on the suggestion of Sen. Patrick Leahey (D, VT). It is vitally important that Congress hear how important protecting Organic Standards and maintaining the authority of the National Organic Standards board instead of allowing dangerous synthetic and toxic ingredients without any public discussion or notice.

Regrettably, the Congressional Briefing scheduled for September 20, 2005 never took place so Congress' dangerous ignorance about Codex continues. The changes proposed by the mega-corporation-influenced Organic Trade Association would severely damage the integrity of the organic food supply and, simultaneously, bring US Organic Standards into Codex Compliance.

Please take action to protect our organic food supply from the negative impact of commercial pressure. The OTA wants to make organic production cheaper while compromising its safety and degrading the quality of this protected food supply. Congress needs to hear from you NOW urging them to take all possible steps to preserve our food supply from the drugs, pesticides, synthetic materials and non-organic feed which the OTA is, disappointingly, pressing Congress to allow. As with the effort to overturn DSHEA, this degradation of our organic food supply will leave us defenseless against "HARMonization" with Codex's dangerous food standards which favor corporate health and seriously endanger your health and mine.

Tell Congress to Act NOW to Protect Organic Food Standards!

It is imperative that you write to your Congressional Delegation telling them that you urge them, as a constituent, to protect the National Organic Standards Board and the integrity of the organic food supply. Tell them that we, the voters who put them in office, will be watching carefully to see how well they defend our health and health freedom.

Please send a letter to Congress urging the members of your Congressional Delegation to prevent the degradation of our Organic Food Supply and support the authority of the National Organic Standards Board.

Dear Congressman,
I am writing at the suggestion of the Natural Solutions Foundation, www.HealthFreedomUSA.org, to urge you to take all possible steps to protect the quality and wholesomeness of organic foods and preserve the important authority and role of the National Organic Standards Board.  The Secretary of Agriculture is currently studying a proposal endorsed by the Organic Trade Association which would degrade the organic standards significantly by allowing synthetic materials, animals treated with veterinary drugs, non-organic feed for organic animals and other serious violations of organic prinicples  while eliminating the power and input of the National Organic Standards Board. It is vitally important that you direct the Secretary of Agriculture to reject any language which would weaken the purity and quality of the Organic food supply and that you vote against any such changes.  I am a consumer and a constituent who values organic food and am willing to pay a premium for clean, unadulterated food.  I anticipate your help in maintaining these hard won standards.   I urge you to use all resources available to you to:

(1) Leave the federal statute, OFPA (Organic Food Production Act) intact regarding all organic standards.
(2) Leave control over policies governing synthetic ingredients, animal feed, and commercial availability of organic ingredients in the hands of the National Organic Standards Board and the organic community, not the USDA which has promulgated organic-hostile positions repeatedly in favor of corporate-friendly ones.
(3) Fund and fully support appropriations for the NOSB, as well as appropriations to help farmers meet strict requirements for organic production.

The proposed Amendment which provides for significant adulteration of the clean sector of the food supply would bring about huge amounts of preventable disease and death by allowing pesticides, veterinary drugs and synthetic materials into the protected, consumer-valued organic food supply with neither public comment, review or notice.

Please note that this assault on the organic food supply exactly matches the pro-illness adulterations of the organic food supply permitted under the Organic Farming Standards of the UN Trade Commission, Codex Alimentarius.

I look to you to protect my health and health freedom by taking strong and active steps to kill the standards being considered by the Secretary of Agriculture and to make sure that they are defeated by Congress.
