DemocracyInAction is looking for a full-time web developer who is responsible for providing technical and strategic support to a range of advocacy organizations using DemocracyInAction’s platform of advocacy tools. Candidates will also be able to put their creativity to work while developing and launching campaigns using DIA tools in new, innovative ways.
The position requires both a strong technical and creative background. Candidates must be able to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with stringent deadlines, be able to communicate clearly and effectively to both techies and non-techies, and most important – is committed to helping the organizations we work with make the most of the tools we provide.
General Responsibilities Include:
Assisting with development of online advocacy campaigns.
Working with clients to determine feature sets and specifications, and then working closely with the engineers to implement those specifications.
Assisting with maintenance of large (over 500k) email lists/databases, email messaging, testing, and segmentation.
Helping clients measure the effectiveness of online campaigns by developing custom reports; etc.
Technical support
Skills Should Include:
Knowledge and experience with website design, HTML and JavaScript. Must be able to address HTML and scripting compatibility issues between different browsers and computing platforms.
Excellent project management and communications skills. Candidates should have the ability to speak effectively with clients, give demos, use creativity and a high degree of technical and professional judgment in order to resolve software problems in non-routine situations (and be calm when the client may not know the difference between a relative hyperlink and a full URL).
Web Skills: Primarily HTML and javascript, but PHP/ColdFusion/JSP/ASP knowledge a plus. Will primarily be using an interface, but problem solving ability a good thing.
Database skills. MySQL knowledge preferred, but not required.
Familiarity and/or interest in learning and experimenting with the new, new tech applications.
Interest in or knowledge of nonprofits/politics and technology is preferred.
