Our Campaigns

The Campaign for Environmental Literacy coordinates various advocacy campaigns designed to restore or expand the federal investment in environmental education (EE). Our first two campaigns in 2005 successfully restored $15 million in funding which included the only two federal grant-making programs specified for environmental literacy.

In 2006, we are once again faced with cuts to the NOAA and EPA environmental literacy funding programs. And with your help and the help of the environmental literacy community, these funds can again be restored. In addition, we hope to gain passage this year of the Higher Education Sustainability Act and to begin building support for including environmental education in the reauthorization of No Child Left Behind.

While our efforts can not guarantee that these cuts will be restored, we can guarantee that they will likely NOT be restored if we do not speak up. The legislators who control this funding simply will not restore the funding on their own initiative – and they will assume that these funds are indeed expendable if they do not hear loudly from the community.

So please remember to visit our action center and make your voice heard on the funding issues that are important to our community. Your contribution is an essential means of strengthening our collective voice! If we don’t speak up for ourselves, who will?
