Tell Your Senator No $$ For New Nukes

We have won key victories in the House in our campaign against Bush new nuclear weapons plans. Now we must make sure that the Senate does not reinstate that money.

Dear Senator,

The Administration's pursuit of new nuclear weapons undermines our international non-proliferation efforts and weakens America's credibility. Two years ago President Bush said, “that the spread of nuclear weapons was "the pre-eminent threat to international security." I could not agree more. We should be getting rid of the nuclear weapons we have not making plans to build new, more usable ones. I urge you to continue to work on behalf of a more secure America by voting against dangerous and wasteful programs such as the Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator (RNEP). Respected nuclear experts at the Union of Concerned Scientists, Lisbeth Gronlund and David Wright have said that due to the associated proliferation costs, “the security costs of developing such weapons outweigh any conceivable security benefits." Please write to let me know that you will oppose funding for RNEP and all other new nuclear weapons programs.
