When President Bush submitted his 2006 budget to Congress he said, "The taxpayers of America don't want us spending our money into something that's not achieving results." I couldn't agree more. Congress should not give another dime to "stay the course" of a tragic, failed war. I ask that you vote against the $82 supplemental for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not withstanding all the cheery prognostications coming from the White House, the death and destruction in Iraq and Afghanistan are not going disappear and be replaced by democracy after this supplemental or the next one or the next one… It's fiscally irresponsible, immoral and bad policy to keep pouring gas on the fire in Iraq in the form of tax dollars for military occupation. Occupation is the cause of the violence not the cure. We need to support Iraq's reconstruction, and $82 billion would go a long way towards jumpstarting that process. However, as long as that money is used for violence and occupation instead of economic investment, Congress is pouring our money down the proverbial rat hole. Please write and tell me how you voted and how you plan to bring our troops home from Iraq.
