DC Needs Cleaner Cars

Cars, trucks and SUVs are among DC’s single largest sources of toxic air pollution and of the pollutants that cause smog (VOCs and NOx). Toxic air pollution causes numerous health effects, including birth defects and cancer. Smog triggers asthma attacks and is a lung irritant even to people who do not have asthma. Furthermore, nitrogen from cars is a significant factor in creating dead zones in the Chesapeake Bay.

The DC Clean Cars Act would reduce passenger vehicle emissions of toxic air pollution by thousands of tons per year. The Clean Cars Act would also bring more advanced technology vehicles, like hybrid cars, to the market place. The technology to make cleaner cars is already available and seven other Northeastern states have already adopted these better standards.

Please take the time to send the email below encouraging the DC city council to take action on global warming and pass the Clean Cars bill. Feel free to edito the email to include your own personal message.
